California Schools VEBA honored as ‘Healthy People 2030 Champion’

SAN DIEGO–(BUSINESS WIRE)–California Schools VEBA has been recognized by the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) as a Healthy People 2030 Champion.

As a Healthy People 2030 Champion, federal officials say VEBA has demonstrated a commitment to helping achieve the Healthy People 2030 vision of a society in which all people can achieve their full potential for health and well-being across the lifespan. ODPHP recognizes California Schools VEBA, along with other Healthy People 2030 Champions, as part of a growing network of organizations partnering with ODPHP to improve health and well-being at the local, state and Tribal level.

“VEBA’s vision has always been to provide accessible and equitable health care, and we are thrilled to be recognized for our efforts as a Health People 2030 Champion. We look forward to continuing working with the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion on this initiative and are committed to improving the health and well-being of our community,” said Robin Watkins, a co-chair of the California Schools VEBA Board of Directors.

In 2019, VEBA launched the VEBA Resource Center (VRC) to help members access, identify and remove barriers to achieving optimal health. With a wide range of programs, classes, services and events offered regularly, the VRC gives members the opportunity to take a holistic and proactive approach to their overall well-being.

“California Schools VEBA is excited to collaborate with the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion and other partners nationwide on Healthy People 2030. We understand that social determinants of health have a major impact on health, well-being and overall quality of life, and we are committed to breaking down existing barriers to ensure that our community has access to quality care,” said Brian Duffy, a co-chair of the California Schools VEBA Board of Directors.

Healthy People 2030 is the fifth iteration of the Healthy People initiative, which sets 10-year national objectives to improve health and well-being nationwide. Healthy People 2030 Champions are public and private organizations that are working to help achieve Healthy People objectives. They receive official support and recognition from ODPHP.

“ODPHP is thrilled to recognize California Schools VEBA for its work to support the Healthy People 2030 vision,” says RADM Paul Reed, MD, ODPHP Director. “Only by collaborating with partners nationwide can we achieve Healthy People 2030’s overarching goals and objectives.”
