Give Taiwan a voice

Message from Taiwan’s Foreign Minister

We believe there has never been a more important time for the world to listen to Taiwan. Yet, as 193 countries gather at the UN to discuss the plight of our planet, the voice of Taiwan remains silenced.

From our effective handling of the pandemic to our ongoing fight for human rights, Taiwan has always believed that you lead by example. Between our fight for gender equality, clean water for all, and good health as a basic human right, as well as our guiding principle to always benefit society as a whole, Taiwan has so much to share with the world.

Taiwan just needs a voice at the table to do so

Despite being a vibrant democracy and one of the world’s freest nations, Taiwan’s 23.5 million people continue to be excluded from the UN system. Our passport holders are blocked from entering UN premises, and our journalists are denied accreditation to cover UN meetings. For six decades, Taiwan has been providing assistance to partner countries around the world, yet it remains left out of the room when the UN meets to discuss the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This has to change.

Now is the time for solidarity and to leave no one behind. We turn to the people across the globe to demonstrate that the world does indeed soar if and when everyone is heard, and ask that you write a message of support on our virtual lantern to show that you believe Taiwan deserves to have a voice. Our hope is that virtual lanterns will soar to the sky, connecting us all with the common belief that only by listening do we start to see things through the eyes of others.
