Photographer launches movement to support Dominica Infirmary

ROSEAU, Dominica – Amid the challenges of the global pandemic, there is light at the end of the tunnel for the Dominica Infirmary. Local entrepreneur and acclaimed photographer, Yuri A Jones, committed to donate three percent of his monthly print sales of Dominica in support of the non-profit organization.

The Dominica Infirmary was born out of concern for destitute elderly citizens of the Commonwealth of Dominica. The institution was called The Alexandra Cottage Home at its inception. This, however, was changed to the Dominica Infirmary in the late 1970s.

The Infirmary, as it is affectionately called, houses up to 94 residents and is run under the motto: “Whatsoever you do unto the least of my brothers and sisters, you do unto me.”

Director of the Dominica Infirmary, Annie St Luce, expressed immense gratitude. “We at the Dominica Infirmary endorse this venture organized by Jones,” she said. “Proceeds generated from this venture will assist the Infirmary to meet some of its financial needs and will positively impact the care provided to the residents.”

Jones, who has two relatives at the Dominica Infirmary, expressed his satisfaction with the care they receive and felt the need to assist the organization in fulfilling their goals. “Giving back is important because it helps sustain hopes and dreams in our communities. In this case, I am happy to be able to help create a comfortable and stable environment for our elderly.” Jones promised to make these donations bi-annually, in June and December. He cemented his pledge by contributing an initial XCD$200.

Jones specializes in landscape photography, family portraits and videography. He is a sole proprietor and urges Dominicans at home and abroad to support the Dominica Infirmary by purchasing his canvas prints depicting striking images of Dominica.
