Presidential Inaugural Committee announces theme: ‘America United’

By Caribbean News Global fav

WASHINGTON, USA – The Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) has announced “America United” as the theme of the inauguration of the 46th President of the United States — Joseph R. Biden, Jr.

“At a time of unprecedented crisis and deep divisions, America United reflects the beginning of a new national journey that restores the soul of America, brings the country together, and creates a path to a brighter future,” PIC, said in a release January 15. ”Americans are living through one of the most challenging periods in our nation’s history. More than 370,000 Americans have lost their lives from COVID-19, and millions more are suffering from the economic destruction of the pandemic. Our political divisions are seeking to tear us apart and continue to test the strength of our democracy. The moment calls for sober reflection and the mustering of our national resolve. It is also a moment of hope.”

The inauguration of Joseph R. Biden, Jr., and Kamala D. Harris will showcase the American people’s resilience, heroism, and unified commitment to coming together as a nation to heal and rebuild so that we emerge as the indomitable force that a united America represents.

“This inauguration marks a new chapter for the American people — one of healing, of unifying, of coming together, of an America united,” said PIC chief executive officer Dr Tony Allen. “It is time to turn the page on this era of division. The inaugural activities will reflect our shared values and serve as a reminder that we are stronger together than we are apart, just as our motto ‘e pluribus unum’ reminds us – out of many, one.”

Along with a National Day of Service — United We Serve — and a nationwide memorial to the lives lost to COVID-19, the PIC announced additional activities:

  • “Field of Flags:” At a time when Americans cannot gather together in person for the inauguration, the PIC will install an extensive public art display on the National Mall that will include approximately 191,500 US flags of varying sizes, including flags representing every state and territory, and 56 pillars of light. This Field of Flags, which will cover the National Mall up to 13th Street, will represent the American people who are unable to travel to Washington, DC, and reflect PIC’s commitment to an inclusive and safe event that everyone can enjoy from their home. To include the American people in the inaugural ceremonies, PIC is welcoming Americans to become a symbolic sponsor of the Field of Flags in exchange for a donation to PIC’s partners in service. More information can be found here.
  • Arlington National Cemetery Wreath Laying Ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier: The president-elect, Dr Biden, the vice president-elect, and Emhoff will visit Arlington National Cemetery following the swearing-in ceremony and Pass In Review at the US Capitol following the Inaugural ceremonies. They will lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, honoring our men and women in uniform who paid the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our common values. This will be one of the president-elect’s first acts as Commander-in-Chief, and he will be joined by president Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, president George W. Bush and Laura Bush, and president Bill Clinton and Secretary Hillary Clinton.
