October is domestic violence awareness month

By Raise Your Voice Saint Lucia Inc

CASTRIES, St Lucia – Raise Your Voice Saint Lucia Inc provides quality, compassionate and nonjudgmental services in a manner that fosters self-respect and independence in women and children experiencing gender-based violence, and to lead the struggle to end this brutality through advocacy and community education.

Domestic Violence Awareness Month is a time for all of us to speak up about domestic violence, raise awareness, and support survivors of this devastating but common issue.

Wear purple – the color of Domestic Violence Awareness Month – during October and use this as a way to tell others why ending domestic violence is important to you.

Volunteer your time with organizations which supports domestic violence victims.

Modern attention to domestic violence began in the women’s movement of the 1970s, particularly within feminism and women’s rights, as concern about wives being beaten by their husbands gained attention.
